Last week I traveled from Philly to NYC for the screening of The Meaning Of Tea at the Asia Society. Even though the event was scheduled in the evening, I took an early bus to meet up with a few friends who call Manhattan home.
As the bus was approaching the city that never sleeps, the gray sky parted to let a little sun shine through and dry the streets damp from morning rains showers. I stepped off the bus and made my way over to Mooncake Restaurant, a fabulous little lunch spot near Penn station.
Arriving a few minutes early, I scanned the menu for a tea treat to quench my thirst. The hints of spring's warm air had me craving something floral and chilled. So, I was beyond thrilled when I read "Iced Jasmine Magnolia Tea" and ordered it without hesitation.
Minutes later, a glass filled with iced golden liquor & topped with a vibrant green lime was placed on my table. First sip, the strong, grassy green jasmine flavor hits my tongue as if spring gave my taste buds a strong right hook. As the familiar jasmine flavor settled in, I could only assume that the next delicate floral taste was the magnolia. The bursts of blossoming notes were rounded out by a hint of bright citrus from the fresh lime.
Sipping in spring...
Sounds wonderful!

mmm! great description. i wonder how the taste would have changed if you sipped straight from the glass (more lime scent/flavour). sigh. i want some now.

Yasmin, you raise a great point. I am sure the citrus flavor would have had a stronger flavor presence if I did drink from the glass. I guess I will have to go back and try it again :)
